well, 1stly photoshop cs4 is one of the best programs i highly recommend that you choose it over all other programs head over to forumw.org and sign up for an account and search for photoshop cs4 ;-). a free but not as good version of photoshop is called the gimp weird name i know but it basically does pretty much the same basic things as photoshop. laptop wise. well, your gunna want a good processor core duo preferably 2.0 ghz, as much ram as you can at least 2gb but best to have 3 or more gigs, and a large hard drive as photo files can be very large. graphics card isn't to important, how ever i would try to go for an ati or NVIDIA card that built in, if the laptop specs say something like intel xxxx graphics it normally means that it is a built in graphics card and not a better quality branded one, but some built in graphics can do the job just as well as branded ones. fujitsu siemens is a good make, high spec COMPONENTS, cheap to buy and last for ages! toshiba are a little more expensive but do ofer good quality, look on sites like play.com and argos the reviews can come in very handy in letting you know about how the laptops perform. also once you buy the laptop consider turning it into a hackintosh (google osx86) mac handles photo editing programs a LOT better than wimpy windows vista which seams to always crash, contact me if you want help with this. and if you can afford it, then simply buy a real apple mac they can hadnle anything you throw at them, but hackintosh's seam to do the work just the same as a proper mac, hope this info helps you :D
