I need to find a really good, girly type book to read with my friend.?

Me and my friend a couple of days ago decided we where going to read a book together, and like talk about it afterwords, and i want her to really like it. It needs to be the type that leaves an emotional impact in your head, I dont want to let her down with my choice. Im tired of seeing all of these vampire crap books. So no twilight. she wants like a dark, romantic, love story type book, with a moral message, and would have alot to talk about. That's just like GOOD. I need this fast, i have to have it by monday. Anyone have any ideas? Please, im terrible at finding things like this.
Preferably something she hasnt probobly already read.
 
The Mediator series by Meg Cabot. these are beautiful books. The main character is amazing and sarcastic and she's in love with a ghost. It doesn't get any more darkly romantic than that.
