I need to buy hiking boots and have no idea where to start...?

I need "light-weight" hiking boots for my summer job, but I have never bought hiking boots and don't know how to do this and get a good deal. I want to spend as little as a I can but still get good shoes that will last a while and protect my feet. Any recommendations for brands or stores to look at? What's a typical price range I would be looking at? I don't want to pay more than I need...

There are a lot of light-weight options. You might even look to "trail-runners" These are kind of like a sneaker but more durable for the rougher terrain of the trail.

I bought my last pair of mid-weight boots at Sierra Trading post. I would start their. Find a boot/shoe you like. Look elsewhere on the web for reviews on the shoe and purchase accordingly. You can probably get a good shoe here for about half of retail cost.

Don't buy anything that looks like a work boot (heavy) or that calls itself a technical boot (ice/snow climbing)
