I need to buy a web cam and a microphone headset for my laptop to use for Skype.

Name brands with quality:
Logitech
Creative
Microsoft Lifecam

Most of these would be readily available on Amazon or eBay.
 
This might seem unorthodox, but i use a Eye Toy webcam that was originally designed for the PS2. The pluses were that it came with a built in microphone and the image quality was great; it even rivals the higher end webcams built for PC.

Downside is you have to download drivers, but it isn't that hard.
