I need to buy a car help?

I just got done drivers ed and am getting my license this week. Problem is my parents are being freaks about buying me a car. My dad just tells me these bull excuses and how i need to pay for my own car when he knows my job cant pay for it. And to top things off he sold my old car!! Now I have no car at all and i need one like soon. Should I go to a dealer or private? If so where should i look and i also have 1500-2000 for a car and im not even sure if my parents are going to help me pay
 
I'd stop thinking about spending $1500-$2000 right now... you also have vehicle registration, license plates, and insurance to pay for (not to mention you'll probably be paying a fee for your driver's license as well... most states charge anymore).

Plates alone can run as much as $100. If you go with a private sale, you're going to want a qualified mechanic to check it out first, and that's at least another $100 (and you may want to have it looked at even if you go to a dealer). Usually with insurance, you have to pay 3 months up front (if you can get on your parents' insurance for awhile, consider yourself extremely lucky...).

$1100 to $1400 would probably be a more realistic price range.
