The basis for the idea is the last line of "The Devil's Arithmetic" by Jane Yolen. The last line of the book is "the swallows still sing around the smokestacks". It's a holocaust book for young adults. I have a few vague ideas. For instance, I really like the idea of some sort of actual smokestacks with the smoke coming out of them turning into birds. It's really symbolic to me, a way of keeping a positive outlook on even the most devastating situations. ANY ideas?
