I Need Surgery But Can't afford it

So I have been out of work for some time now because I cut a tendon in my thumb. The last job I had was under the table so I could not collect unemployment. I also have no health insurance because I am 23 and not going to school. Now I messed up my knee and I need surgery but I can not afford to pay before the procedure. I live in San Diego California, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? I'm in quite a bit of pain and all I have is a knee brace from the last time I hurt my knee.

thank you

You can also try checking into "Emergency medicaid" to cover your procedure with your local Social Services office. I don't know the laws in your state, but here in my state, they do have this program for people who need medical treatment, but don't have insurance or the money to pay out of pocket. The requirements here are that whatever the procedure is has to be at least 30% of your income for that month. It takes jumping through their hoops and filling out tons of paperwork, but is worth it when you need medical treatment that you just can't afford.

Good Luck, and I hope you can get the help you need.

yeah there is a hospital just up the street but they want the money up front.

I'll look into the emergency medicaid, thanks a lot for the tip
