Let me start by saying that my S-I-L and I are married to brothers. They have been married for a few years longer than we have. They also had their children long before we had ours. My S-I-L has always been very materialistic and tries to outdo the "Joneses" on everything, but of course, she lives on debt and from paycheck to paycheck and not the best marriage. We live much simpler and without debt, and we have a very happy simple marriage. My brother-in-law has wanted out of the marriage for a long time, but is afraid that she will forbid their children from having any contact with him, which is highly likely.
My family member had a business and my S-I-L wanted to go to work with them. She left her job that she had been at for many years to go to work for them. Needless to say, the job did not work out long and she was fired because she did not want to actually work for the money that she was making....lazy and she took it for granted that because it was my family member, that she would "have it made". My S-I-L has not spoken to me since and has forbidden the children, grandchildren and even her husband not to have anything to do with me. I have prayed many times about this and tried to just go on, but this really interferes with holidays and events. She did come to my child's wedding, but did not speak to me and acted as though I were not even there at my own child's wedding. Needless to say, it was a little uncomfortable. I was never close to her until she was having martial problems and after I had my children, so it's not like I lost my best friend. We did spend "some" quality time together as friends, but it really bothers me that she talks about me behind my back and won't let her family have anything to do with me. My husband says that it doesn't matter, and to forget about her. She is the type that holds grudges forever. The problem is that I did not have anything to do with her getting fired, but I am the one being punished. Does anyone have any suggestions?
