I need some advice on betta fish?

i want to buy a betta fish but i dont have the money to buy a glass bowl.can i use an old plastic bottle.if yes what is the minimum volume(in liters).
also give any thing else i need to know.
should i place it in the light or a shady place
what about a glass cylinder shaped bottle
i love fish and i really want a betta fish
i live in india. a betta fish is Rs.15(0.25 dollars)
a tank is Rs600(12 dollars) which is QUIET A LOT.and i have little space at home
 
They need to live in a small space, but large enough for them to swim around in. you need to buy special food not just regular fish food. the people at the pet store should be able to help you out
