I need some advice on a car seat?

I am looking for one car seat that I can use from newborn to toddler. I am assuming a convertible car seat is the best? I don't need a seat that goes into a stroller and I don't think I need one with a removable base. Just one seat that will stay in the car always.

I was intrigued by the Safety 1st Air convertible car seat with the air "bags" for side impact crashes.

I am so overwhelmed at the number of car seats out there I would love some advice
