3 men go to book a room at this hotel, the room costs £30 so they each pay £10 and get 1 room, then go up to there room

a the manger comes to the receptionist and asks if anyone has booked in, she told him that 3 lads have booked in 1 room for £30

he said look seen as its the weekend, give them £5 back, so he hands her 5 £1 coins and as she can't split that between the 3 men she puts 2 pound in her pocket and gives each man £1

so now each man is payin £9 so thats 9+9+9 =£27 plus the 2 pound in her pocket =£29

I know how this works with dollars. But, since I do not use pounds, you will have to interpret it for yourself. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The men didn't pay 27 dollars for the room, they paid 25. The desk clerk screwed them each out of 66.66 cents, which he pocketed. The desk clerk TOLD them that they were paying 9 dollars each, in reality, they were paying $8.33 each ($25) and he stole the other 66 cents each (2 dollars) that they thought they were paying for the room. It's like this.

$30 what they paid.
- $3 what they got back.
------------
$27 what they thought they were paying for the room
-$2 what the desk clerk stole from them
----------------
$25 the cost of the room

It's worded to confuse you, because you shouldn't be adding the 2 dollars that the clerk stole to the 27. The 27 includes that 2 dollars already (25 for the room and 2 for the clerk = 27 what they thought they were paying). Then you add the 3 to that to get the original thirty.

Each man should not be paying £9. He should be paying £8.33 each - as they knocked £5 off the bill - that's £25 divided by 3. That was before she gave them back a quid back each. So .33 x 3 is the £ that went missing or as some might say, was scammed from those unsuspecting innocents.

Hope that helped. You may need to read a few times as I be drunk as a mofo.

get 30 pennies make 3 rows of ten now take 5 away how many r in each row now??8, 8, 9 now give back 3 pennies u now have 9,9 10 in each row. thats 28 plus your 2 makes 30.you made them pay 2 dollars more than the 25 dollar bill(.if you would of gave them the 2 dollarsback then they would of payed 25 total

Its the way you you change the question around. They each paid 9$ (I have an american keybord) 27$ was paid (3 times 9) 25$ to the hotel and 2$ to the ladies pocket.

Well if £5 is given back, that is effectively £25 paid. Then, £3 is given to the three men, and £2 remains in her pocket.

The trick is that it makes you think that each person pays £9, when really it would be £8.33 rounded!

Each man paid £10 each
Thats £30

The room was reduced by £5
Thats £25

Each man was refunded £1
Thats £28

The receptionist kept £2
Thats £30
