recommendations? I want to read something about someone who goes on a journey, and they meet various characters along the way who either help/try to stop them completing their goal. Something big scale... like if they don't do it darkness will take over the world. I don't really like reading about elves, wizards and swordfights etc... I'd like to read something set in the modern world like The Stand, or in an alternate reality of some sort. Supernatural stuff is ok, like having special powers... or having dreams with meaning that help lead them towards their goal. I'd like to read something dark.
Can anyone name any novels you think I'd enjoy with a similar premise as what I've mentioned? It doesn't have to be exactly like that, but something along those lines.
