Hey Dasher! No mate i dnt have any data plan with it i just got a phone charger and data cable with it...as i told u earlier that i got it as a present si couldnt ask fior anything...and he has given me the phone which he was using....so i thought it might work...but it didnt....can u help me in that...and can i ask you which pin u asking about because i dnt know anything about it

I would imagine it is locked to a Canadian carrier (e.g. Rogers, etc.) which will prevent SIM cards from other carriers working in it.

1) you will have to determine if the phone is locked, the procedure is around these forums somewhere; if this goes unanswered for a few days I will do a search but you can too.

2) if it is confirmed as locked, you will have to get the phone unlocked via one of the various unlocking sources on the internet, which perhaps someone here can suggest a reputable one. If it's locked to Rogers, they will not unlock it for you.

It sounds to me, as others have said, that your Pearl is locked to the previous carrier. You must have the phone unlocked in order to use it on any carrier. If you know who the previous carrier was, I will help to find a place for you to unlock it.

Unlocking is the first step, then as Dasher said, if you want to use the Pearl to have data access (such as email and internet browsing) you will have to get a data plan with your current mobile carrier. If you choose not to have a data plan, the Pearl still is a top of the line phone with calendar, memos and other neat functions.

Also, I want to reiterate what Dasher said, if a Blackberry has been used previously, the PIN and IMEI must be released by the previous provider so that you can have access to the data functions.

My suggestion is that you contact whomever you received the phone from and ask who their provider was and if they had the PIN and IMEI released and if they did not if they will have them released. Let us know how this goes and feel free to private message me and I will help you out if you need anything.

One last thing too, although dubious at best.

Is the sim card inserted correctly? If you are unsure, I am not 100% sure about the Pearl, but on some models there is an imprint of which way the sim card goes which shows the notch orientation.

A sim card inserted incorrectly will ALSO display the same messages even if the phone is unlocked. Just trying to eliminate the possiblilities here although I think all the posters have covered it.

If its a Rogers pearl it is locked, they all are. And Rogers blackberry's are the hardest to release. Its my experience from talking to everyone that I know that unlocks phones, it would be cheaper and faster to sell yours on eBay and buy a new one that is already unlocked. In Canada, the best I have found it about 80 bucks and takes close to a month.

yes my Blackeberry Pearl is from Rogers. So do You Guys think it wont work I wopnt get any unlocking code for it...If it is true then let me know because i will give this phone back to the person who gave me it...so atleast he can use it..

If we have ascertained that it's a locked Rogers phone, then before making a decision, I would check around and find out what it would cost to have it unlocked. I have seen the prices vary on BB unlocking from $25 - $75. Pick a reputable unlocker, perhaps ask here to see if anyone has had any feedback on them, and then decide. Do a search here, in google and on ebay if you want to be thorough.

Rogers' BB's are no harder to unlock than any other carrier's. The only difference is that Rogers themselves will not unlock it for you or arrange to provide the unlock code [any more] for any reason. Some unlockers take advantage of that fact and charge more for a Rogers unlocking, but otherwise there is no difference between a locked Rogers BB and a locked BB from any other carrier.

I always say to try GSM Phone Source. I have had great experience with them in unlocking two of my BBs. For Rogers they charge US$59 to unlock. GSM Phone Source

I would suggest them, but if you can find something cheaper and feel you can trust whomever you are dealing with try them.
