Find the values of x and y, where x and y are real numbers.
(x - y) + 5i = 8 + yi
I tried doing this and I came up with
x=8+y+(y-5)i
y(x-8+5i)/1+i
but this is not right
I contacted my instructor and he said.
"That is because you should be getting real numbers for your answers, not expressions. Remember that two complex numbers are only equal (a + bi = c + di), if a = c and b = d."
But I am still confused...
The next problem in the homework is very similar and I still can't get it.
Find the values of x and y, where x and y are real numbers.
2+(6x+y)i=2x-7i
My answers were
x= (i(y+7)+2)/(2-6i)
Y= (2x-7i-6ix-2)/i
But that also was not right.
PLEASE HELP!
