I need help with the new mytouch google phone...?

I want to get one, but i dont know if i can because people say that you have to pay for internet and everything just to make the phone work. i just want the phone, i already have unlimited texting, and will i be able to use the wifi on it? i just dont want to pay for the internet and everything. so if you can let me know...that would be great..thank you
