I need help with Switching from flute to Tenor Saxophone in Jazz band!?

To start off, i'm a drummer/ percussionist.Well, my band director has in the off season made me switch around a lot to where ever he needs me, I played flute for awhile and I've played trombone, trumpet, and fluggle, but usually I play drums or some form of percussion. Well, he put me in Jazz band and put me on Tenor sax, and he has a lot of high expectations for me, so can someone tell me how to become...awesome at the Tenor sax, so I don't let down my director? playing a reed instrument is weird, let alone having to blow in a instrument again since I've been on drums for so long now. I know a lot of the fingerings are the same, but some a different than flute. My main problem is trying to get the low notes out! I can get really high notes, but none of the low. So
I just need help so I don't let my director down. He has it stuck in his mind that I can play any instrument he throws at me, this is like the fourth time he's put me on a new instrument when he needs one because he thinks im musically inclined and can play whatever he throws at me. ugh. =[
Just, someone anyone help me become awesome at this stupid smelly instrument!? lol
