To tell between a male and a female, you will know because on the tag outside of the pet shops fish tank it will say female or male. They will get along they are from the same family. i have like 5 of those fish in one tank and 2 four inch catfishs they are both in the community catigory... they ill be fine!

i have one red fin rainbow shark and want to get anther i need 2 things

Rainbow sharks will actually kill each other, they are very territorial and breeding is very, very, rare in captivity unless you have an extremely large tank, that each can have it's own territory. By extremely large I mean at least 300 gallons.

you will know because their are some tags in the tank that says either female or male.or you can ask a worker at the shop.oh and if you are trying to breed them then it will be super hard.they rarely ever breed.the only way you will be able to breed them is if you have a huge tank.but it is still going to be very hard.i don't recomend for you to get another one becasue it will get aggressive toward the other one and they will fight and might kill each other.so just keep your tankt he way it is.

did you get it from the fish store? because the fish they sell, the females cant lay eggs.
