I need help with my debate topic- That Australia should produce Nuclear...

...Power- Affirmative? Well basically it's a very complex debate topic seeing as im in gr9. I wouldn't have a clue about nuclear power. In fact all I know about it is that it's produced in Sydney and even that probably wont be right. I'm also affirmative so i agree with the topic so thats gonna be extra hard. I'm second speaker (never been 2nd before) so I have to talk for a while. Here are my main topics that my teacher wrote up and that I have no clue about them:
*Does not have carbon emissions
*compare NP (nuclear power) with black coal
*Statistics
*Nuclear Waste
*ANY help you can give me!! I debate this Tuesday!!!
 
You say this is for a 'debate.'
I am sure you want your side to win the debate, right? So, the key to doing that is knowing (or having some idea about) the con side's arguments and effectively refuting them in your arguments. That means you should really study both sides.

The lack of carbon emissions is the biggest point that is positive. I would look up some energy statistics to go a bit beyond what your teach is telling you to. Coal and nuclear power both have good points and bad. Nuclear power requires constant attention, but is a relatively closed system. Coal need fuel shipped in from elsewhere, which increased the emissions of carbon dioxide even more (think of how many trains you see carrying coal). Then look at waste issues. This is the big problem for many, however the nuclear waste can be transformed into yet another form of power production as it still generates heat, as well as many different radiations being released, including alpha particle emissions which may be able to be collected via solar panels or a yet undiscovered, but more efficient, process. The waste may be used as a dirty bomb, but one needs access to it first. Also keep in mind that technology has increased dramatically in terms of harnessing potential, size, and ultimately safety.
