I Need Help With My Comp!?

I have a microphone attached to my headphones but the microphone doesn't work!
Also my volume control thing that you usually get in the bottom right hand corner isn't there and when you try to find it in Start --> Accessories its not in there either!

Any help please anyone!

Its not in Accessories, its in control panels. Mine kept disappearing too, I think its a common problem. I use my monitor controls for volume.
