I am looking to buy two subwoofers and an amplifier for my truck. I have no idea what watts even are so this is my problem; I have found a really good deal on two 12" Kenwood subs, they both peak out at 1200 Watts a piece, that would equal about 2400 Watts peak power. Does anyone know how many watts the amp im getting should be capable of pushing? If you could even just lay down the basics to the whole watts generalization it would be greatly appreciated. They're also 4 ohms if that helps your answer. Thanks.

First of all, Peak, max etc means NOTHING to you, or anyone else that is trying to put a system together. All you want to look at as far as watts is the RMS rating. You do however need to find an amp that puts close to the watts as the subs need, and you need to get one that is stable at the final output of the subs will be.

For example, if the subs are single 4 ohm coils, your best bet is to get a mono amp as it will be the best bang for the buck, as most any mono amp is stable at 2 ohms, which is how the subs will be wired for a final load. The subs would be wired in parallel to get that.
