There is a good possibility that your phone carrier has bluetooth file transfer disabled on your phone. Some of them do this so they can charge you 25 cents a pop to transfer files from your phone to your pc thru e mail.

I have a windows vista computer, sony ericson phone. bluetooth is built in to my computer. when i try to search for my phone it wont find it. i thought i had turned on the capability on the pc cause it had a popup at the top telling me to so i did. but it still didnt work. my phones bluetooth is turned on. when i chick the bluetooth file tranfer wizard and click send file it doesnt have any options of where to send it. i have never used this before so im not quite sure what to do. i need help please?! just tell me everything you know

Have you got your phone visibility on? That may be why.
yu dont need to have a directory to download if you have bluetooth as i wil automatically dowload to your phone if both peripherals are active.When you click on the bluetooth icon on laptop,let it search for your phone and it should pick up signal automatically .Also tr a search from your phone and see i it picks up laptop signal.
