I need help, what does 'gently fold' mean when it comes to cooking ?

I'm trying to make a broken glass cake and I don't understand part of the recipe. This is the part of recipe that I don't get:

Boil pineapple juice; stir into unflavored gelatin. Set aside until slightly thickened. Place whipped topping in a large bowl; gently fold in pineapple juice mixture.

What does that mean, to 'fold' it into the mixture ? Please help!
