i need help troubleshooting a problem with my 1992 Toyota corolla?

the problem first started when i was coming down the freeway going at about 65 miles a hour because anything over 70mp and car was not stable uncontrollable kinda so to be safe stayed under 70mph, so as going down freeway all of a sudden it felt like someone threw a wrench in my transmission. made my car bog down to bout 50 mph and almost lost control. cruised at 50 to next exit with a little resistance. as i exit the slowed i came to the stop sign the louder tee grinding noise got when i came to full stop the car stalled.. was able to get it started again and drive it into parking lot with alot o grinding noise and resistance parked it shut the car off , when i started it again engine started smoothly until i tried to put in reverse to back out of space, loud crunching grinding noise !!! immediately put back in park turned off car and had it towed, a good friend of mine who i trust as a good mechanic helped me take the drive lines out because when we started it in drive jacked up with foot on the brake was fine until i let foot off of brake in drive it grind-ed and loud noise . then shut it down ... drive lines are out no metal flakes, splines look good and c-clips are there can someone please tell me what steps to take next to narrow down the problem thanx
