I need help for debating: why should all zoos be closed down?

Im sorry, I don't agree with this. Im a zoo keeper. That's right I work in a zoo. In my opinion so long as animals are kept in a natural environment with natural foods there is nothing wrong with it.

Animals in captivity get medical attention as soon as needed.

Crikey- you should so some research. The thylacine is extinct coz of habitat destruction not being put in zoos. A lot of animals are going extinct and zoos can help because they can breed a population of that animal and release a very healthy group. Tasmanian devils are currently declining very fast coz of the face cancer. There are breeding facilities in melbourne that to my knowledge are working quite well so far. Koalas are another example, a large majority of wild populations are developing cancers, contracting chlamydia, at least in a zoo they are breeding in a controlled environment where testing is available to discover whether they are sick or not, and appropriate care can be given.

Talk soup- with stingrays from calgary, animals die it is a part of life. Maybe they had a disease or something that can't be stopped. Its interesting that you can have hundreds of animals survive then when an animal dies it is splashed across front page news

Thing- all zoos do enrichment for their animals. That is hide food so they have to dig, climb, swim, forage whatever. Move around things in their enclosures so they have new obstacles to explore, different smells etc. For example, Our dingoes are taken on a walk for an hour each morning and a run in a huge enclosure for over an hour each afternoon. Our quoll gets its logs moved around frequently. Also with its food we hide it, sometimes leaving a blood trail around the enclosure so the animals can find the food themselves. Animals that can be kept together are this provides another form or entertainment. Animals that can't be kept together are given more enrichment, new foods, new logs, collapsing burrows, new smells etc.

Also, they do provide people with a lot of information and a way for people to study them safely (take blood samples, fecal samples etc.). It also lets people know just how dangerous these animals can be and teaches people to be extremely careful around them.

would you like to be put in a cage to be look at by millions
we shouldn't be picking on animals who can't fight back without being killed

keeping rare species in zoos discourages the public from supporting habitat preservation, because they think the species can just keep on living in zoos, which is impossible.

You could talk about some animals that have gone extinct in zoos, like the Thylacine.
