...author or pub. date!? The book is a kind of Cinderella story, but it does not have any magic elements. A young girl works in her father's inn doing all kinds of terrible chores. Her dad went to battle and everyone thinks he was a coward, though he really isn't. There is a boy who is always making her these amazing picnics. In the end a sword the boy has leads her to father and it is revealed that he was not a coward after all. It might have had something to do with a white rose. I know, it's a weird description, but I was very young. If you have any idea what it might be, please let me know!
