I Need gardening help! Snapdragons not snapping!?

Ok, so the other day I bought snapdragons from my local plant nursery, and THEY AREN'T SNAPPING! I thought they could! I sat and watched one as quietly as I could for, like, 20 minutes and NOTHING! please help. (Btw I tried feeding them but all I tried was Jell-O does anyone have a better idea?)
 
Pick one of the flowers, put your thumb on one side of the base and your index finger on the other side. Pinch. Voila! It snaps.
