I need a good excuse to drop my college class?

I am usually a good student, but I am dealing with a lot of stress right now and I am also dealing with depression, and changing school was a big change for me to get used to. It's my first semester at college and I made the mistake of taking too many units. I also ended up with a teacher who teaches his beginning general ed class at an advanced level and who has no idea how to teach. As a result, I am doing badly in that class so I was planning on dropping it. Unfortunately, I found out you need a "serious and compelling reason" to drop a class and you have to file a petition and ask the teacher's permission. I am not used to this because at my junior college, you could drop a class anytime and they never asked you anything about it. So I am not sure what I should tell them, I don't know if my reasons are good enough to convince them I need to drop.
