I met a legend today!

We went up city centre in Milton Keynes at lunchtime. I had noticed a couple of weeks ago that Julie Andrews (yes, THE Julie Andrews) was going to be in WH Smith's signing copies of her new book, The Great American Mousical. There was a long queue when we got there but they said she was signing 200 books and you had to buy a book and get a raffle ticket before joining the queue, and when I went to buy it I was number 123 so I figured that would be okay.

We probably queued for about 45 mins and I got to talk to her! Okay, you have to understand that one of my favourite movies is The Sound of Music and so this was a BIG deal for me. We weren't allowed to take photos but she did talk to everyone individually which was nice, rather than just sign the book and have the body guarRAB shoo us on.

I told her about importance of The Sound of Music in our family. My parents went to see the movie and afterwarRAB my dad proposed to my mum. Then at their wedding they had the Wedding March from the film/show. I saw it when I was 5 and it was the first time I had ever been to the cinema, and it is responsible for me being involved with musical theatre now. I made a complete idiot of myself and started crying (!) but it is an emotional thing for me. She thought it was lovely and told me to send her best wishes to my parents. Then as we left my son (aged 2) smiled and she said he had a sweet smile (which he does!).

She was really nice. Doesn't look her age at all (probably had surgery, I don't know) and was very well spoken, just as you'd expect her to be from film and stuff.

Did you ask Ms Andrews whether she went topless in S.O.B as it was integral to the film or was she strapped for cash. Alas when I showed her photo's to my sons aged 19 amd 16 they didn't know who she was? Legend can sometimes be an overused word.... :D
