I mated ma dog exactly 5wks ago and i'm yet to see any sign of puppies in er belly. is this normal?

With dogs of this size first consider that they should have only a few puppies. The other thing is that they you are a little over half way through the whole process at another week or so i would expect to see more and more signs.
On the other hand, just because the dogs bred this doesn't mean that you female took. without spending a lot of money and going to the vet the best thing that you can do is be patient and wait. But if you have a lot of money, time, and effort tied into this breeding then you should go on to the vet and see how things are progressing if at all.
 
If you went ahead and mated your b itch 5 weeks ago, you'll have a mentor lined up - go ask her. If you have no mentor, you have another 4 weeks to find one - and to read up on pregnancy and whelping/rearing litters, in the b itch.

You may see thickening of the flanks by 5 weeks, but perhaps not. Too early.
