I made the application online this past June, first of all my mom has been with my stepfather for 12 years, but they are NOT married (so in all reality i shouldn't call him my stepfather). the first time they went to file taxes they told the tax preparer that they weren't married, but the tax preparer put then down as married although he knew he shouldn't. My mom and step-dad told the guy not to put them as married because it will bring problems in the future, such as fraud, etc, but they guy did it anyway and it's been maintained like that ever since. So this past June when I applied for my FAFSA I did a terrible mistake. For this mistake I can't myself in college. Okay back to the application... when i was filling out the part where it asks about the parents' income, I put my mom as single because since she's not married to Martin ( should be step-dad), and she doesn't have his last name, I decided to put her down as single, BIG MISTAKE uggh. All this information is going to the IRS, they are going to think that my parents are doing fraud or something, that's why i still haven't received my EFC from the application and I couldn't enroll in college and still can't. IS THERE A WAY I CAN FIX THE APPLICATION? WHAT IF I APPLY FOR ANOTHER TYPE OF STUDENT LOAN? I'M THINKING I SHOULD GET A STUDENT LOAN FROM A BANK. HELP PLEASE...
