I locked my keys in my '97 pontiac sunfire!?

Ok I locked my keys in my '97 pontiac sunfire last night and have been trying to get in with a coat hanger but no luck so far.Will the police do anything to help if I call them.And what else can I do myself to avoid having to call and wait on the police.
 
If it has remote control door locks and someone else has the backup transmitter, you can call them and have them unlock it through the cell phone.
