i live in cal. if i ride my bike at night what kinda lights do i need and where do

i need to put them? i know i need some but im not sure if i need one for just the fron or both back and front.
 
Get the best front light that you can afford. About any of the rear red flashing light will work. Reflectors are not the safest but they do help and a reflective jacket and helmet also helps.
