planters? I'm looking into starting a garden in my backyard. I read everywhere that you need to make sure that the soil is good. I live in Arizona so the soil is pretty much lacking in everything. Would it be easier and better to just use raised planters? I'm just wanting a small veggie garden. Things I can use in cooking such as peppers, tomatoes and possibly lettuce. I plan on putting some type of cover up such as a greenhouse but want to grow on the ground. Any good suggestions?

P.S. I'm not completely naive when it comes to gardening since I grew up with my mom who always had a garden its just that she doesn't know much about planting in Arizona.

Please help.

(only kind remarks and suggestions needed, thanks)

Try asking your County Extension Agent for suitable suggestions for the climate and soil. They also give soil tests. You get earth from the garden ad they analyze it for a few bucks. WORTH the effort. I have my garden done every 8 ir 10 years. They will tell you what is lacking in your soil. It is my tax dollars at work.

It is hot there so you may have to look at growing in shady areas of the garden/yard.
