I live in a house built in 1900. I need to somehow mix white trim with wood trim....

...What should i do? My doors are wood, my floor is wood, but everything else such as baseboard, window trim, door tirm, crown moulding, built-in cabinets, and fireplace mantel are painted white. The problem is that I am about to do some major reconstruction which will require me to move doors/windows, add doors/windows so my existing trim won't exactly match up once the changes have been made. How can I mix wood with white when I redo the construction?
I forgot.. a good example would be that my staircase is wood, the handrail is wood, but the balusters are white and it looks good. How can i create a balanced look between the two in the rest of the house?
 
your right the natural wood and the white spindles look good I have created the same effects myself. I have also found that spreading that effect throughout the house can be too much and its hard to mix the two differences when it comes to basic trim like baseboard , door and window trim.
I would choose to do complete rooms like one with painted trim another room, like the formal dinning room with natural wood color with light stain.
 
Just paint the wood stuff white. And if you want all of your trim to match up just buy new its not that expensive.
