So, I like this guy. We are both turning 18 soon and are in year 12. We've known each other since year 7 and over the past few years have hung around with the same group of close friends. Anyway, until about a year ago, we didn't get along at all. We have conflicting opinions about everything, little in common and would always argue. Our friends would tease us about having a 'love-hate' relationship, which we both took offense to.
From about a year ago, we've learnt to get along better. However, it's still a bit awkward between us, especially when it's just us two alone and we will SOMETIMES still argue. Over this time we have slowly progressed to generally getting along though. I don't know whether you would call us friends or not. At about the same time that we started being nicer to each other, I started liking him.
Neither of us have had a boyfriend/girlfriend before. He's a confident person, but I think romantically shy, and wants to find a girl he really likes and who feels the same about him before he starts something, I think. I am shy in general, and I really don't have the confidence to tell him how I feel or ask him out, and in this case I really don't think that's the right way to handle it even if I was more confident. However, this is our last year of school, and I REALLY like him, it's not just a little crush, and I don't know how to speed things up. I don't want to ruin our 'friendship', and even if not romantically I would love to get closer to him as friends. I don't know what to do.
Does anyone have ideas of how I can make it a clear possibility that I might be interested in him, without making it something he can't just put aside if he doesn't feel the same? I really like him and I don't think it's going to go away anytime soon. Could you give me any hints on how I can talk to him without it being awkward? How can I hint to him that I might like him and read into whether he might feel the same? How can I develop a better friendship with him?
