The only way to save it alive was to actually saw the post off and take it and the cat to the ER, it looked like it was a really old post, possibly irreplaceable, is it common practice to destroy irreplaceable property without the consent of the owner to save the life of a feral cat?
I just saw on TV where a cat fell and impaled itself on a sharp metal fence post?
