I just leased a new Ford Fusion, does this help the US economy more than if I had...

...leased a new Toyota? I read that the Fusion is built in Mexico and has components made from all over the world. But i'm just curious if this helped the US economy more than perhaps leasing an new toyota, or Volkswagen, etc. Thanks!
 
Any purchase of a new car helps the US economy. But buying a Ford helps even more because Ford is an American corporation with their headquarters in Detroit Michigan. Toyota is a Japanese corporation and their profits are sent back to Tokyo where they are headquartered.
 
This is a hard one. The Fusions are designed in America, but built in Mexico. Toyotas are increasingly built in the USA, but all designed in Japan.

So I would say probably the Fusion, because you are supporting the higher end functions of the company, and not just the assembly line workers. Plus you are supporting an American based company whose profits (if there are any) come back to America and not get sent overseas.
 
Ford has many global products, and makes their cars at whatever place saves them money. But it is still an American-based company, so yes, you are helping just a bit more with the US economy. (Although I would also agree that you are helping with the 'global' economy).
 
Many Japanese cars have their components made in other countries as well. Your Ford has a better warranty, and it didn't have to barged across an ocean, so the carbon footprint of the Fusion is much more attractive! Ford is based in the US, and your purchase helps the US better than any foreign based manufacturer. Congratulations on your choice; you've helped out your fellow Americans and impacted the environment minimally!!
