or shack that is in the tank.? I havnt seen him come out or get out. Is he stuck or just shy, what is wrong. what are the habits of new black ghost knifes in a new fish tank?(new as in new to the fish)
That sounds normal, new or not. They are nocturnal fish and spend a lot of their time hiding.
If you want to see more of your ghost knife, put a piece of slate or something similar against the front glass and he may hide there where you can see him.
the bgk (black ghost knife) is a nocturnal fish he is hiding during the day and will be active at night. Daytime hiding spots are a necessity for this fish although it may become more active during the day as it becomes more comfortable with its surroundings and its tank mates. Because of its preference for feeding at night you may want to consider feeding before you go to bed after you shut the tank lights off this will give your bgk the best chance for feeding with other fish in the tank. Feed meaty foods or live food such as worms, ghost shrimp or guppies. FYI bgk may take time to adjust to non live food they hunt using electrical impulses this is why they swim with their bodies straight only moving their fins keeping their bodies straight helps them Sense their pray. bgk are from the South American Amazon they like a soft acidic water with a ph below 7
