I Just Don't Understand

Nickelodeon's schedule sucks. How can they have SpongeBob on 13 times today? For the most part their schedule is mostly SpongeBob, some iCarly and some Drake and Josh. How about 12 episodes of SpongeBob to make room for one episode of Avatar or at least a halfway decent show? I can't understand how a network can survive on three shows. I know I'm exaggerating and they occasionally air a different show or two, but come on!

Spongebob = ratings. Big ratings. Big ratings = big $$$$

That's why they show it so much. It's insanely popular and gets massive ratings each and every day, which isn't true of shows like Avatar. So Nick is going to bleed the show dry until the ratings drop off, which probably won't happen soon.

I personally don't mind because I can never get enough Spongebob reruns.

:D I think everyone should start calling it Spongelodeon. They really should rerun other, you know, shows that are good. It would be nice not to see:
NOW: SPONGEBOB
NEXT: SPONGEBOB
LATER: SPONGEBOB
IN FACT: WE'LL JUST LET YOU KNOW IF IT'S NOT SPONGEBOB.

Kids don't seem to mind, though.

If Avatar and other shows pulled in those ratings, they''d have no problem showing them. As it stands, they don't, so they rarely air them. Just simple business practice.

They sure don't:

Amazing.

The only animated series that I can think of that still get great ratings while being rerun a lot are The Simpsons and Family Guy.

Yeah, I barely watch Nick because of too much Spongebob, even though I like the little guy. Also, it's not just Spongebob that's been rerun too much, how many times has Nick reran 'Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp' on their schedule?!?

As I understand, the show did well in the ratings on the week of the finale episodes.

How did the show do compared to Fairly Oddparents and Jimmy Neutron?

Nail, head I agree while I do enjoy Spongebob it is on too much. But it is one of their top rated shows. Besides with teen nick doing so well this is likely to change. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more Drake & Josh. Zoey 101 and iCarly in the future. Good thing I gave Nick up for dead years ago.

But see...this works! I wouldn't even watch Back and the Barnyard and the Might B if they weren't aired between Spongebob repeats.

Brilliant strategy on Nick's part honestly.

Fairly Odd Baby got 8.8 Million Viewers, a lot more than Avatar's finale got. No idea on Jimmy Neutron though.

The key difference though is that while Avatar's premier ratings were fairly good for the final week, the rest of the series wasn't nearly as good, especially during rerun airings. Reruns being the big key here since it doesn't require Nick to spend money to make any new episodes. Spongebob, FOP, and (probably) JN get better rerun ratings than Avatar does, otherwise Nick wouldn't have a problem with rerunning Avatar. Though JN obviously lost a lot of its audience by now compared to Spongebob and FOP.

So why do they give Jimmy Neutron a chance to gain viewers back? As I mentioned, at least Avatar has a solid track record on the DVD front, so it's not the total failure that Nick makes it out to be.

Besides, the lack of success for the reruns could be attributed to the same 40 episodes being repeated. Now at the very least they could try for a couple of complete runs for the show and judge further runs based off that. And this time they'd have 61 episodes.

Besides, I fail to see how money is a valid reason to air a program excessively. I mean, when Ninja Turtles and He-Man were in the position that Spongebob is now, networks didn't run either of those programs to death.

Yeah, I know. I'm not TRYING to be hateful in general. I'm just baffled as to why that formula works so well for the Sponge and Nick. Other networks get immense criticism for using the same tactic (i.e. AS and Family Guy)

Well, since you asked REALLY nicely (and you did, and I appreciate that), I'll play nice, or at least try to from now on. I guess I wasn't considering how upset my words on a computer screen were making people like you. If people gave me more input to what I wrote online, I WOULD watch what I say, but the harsh reality is that half the time no one even bothers to write a response to my posts (which is kind of depressing, I must admit, not being popular like some posters here), so I therefore often assume no one listens to what I have to say anyway, let alone gets upset over it. But seeing as how you seem really angered over what I have written previously especially, I'll keep your words in mind. Is that okay with you? Please let me know. I love getting responses, but usually don't, thus my apathy towards the content of what I put out there.

I go on and on about obscure after obscure topic and no one responds to that, or even bothers to write a reply to all my words. Where is people's passion there? What, obscure animation doesn't deserve love too?

I write two words in a negative context about a children's television show, and all hell breaks loose.

I wouldn't worry too much about me if I were you. I learned my lesson a day or two ago, whenever it was that this discussion happened (I don't even remember if it was yesterday or the day before). (been too busy with my life to pay attention to forums much lately...sorry).

But honestly, try not to take what I or anyone else on the web says so seriously, even if it is for the purpose of debate. It's better for your psychological health. If a person takes everything they read online at face value, they will invariably become stressed like I often feel when I read some of the rude things people write online.

For the record, I don't like the Sponge, and my attitude isn't going to change just because people don't agree with me.

But also for the record, I don't not like Nickelodeon. Quite the contrary. I support their better and older content. I grew up on it as a kid like many people, and I many of the shows they've done, such as Rocko, Doug, Ren and Stimpy, Are you afraid of the dark, You Can't Do That on Television, The Angry Beavers, Invader ZIM, The Fairly Odd Parents, and more lately Avatar, Danny Phantom, and the Mighty B. But frankly, the truth about Nickelodeon is that if it weren't for the success of Spongebob, and their obsession with it's high ratings, there would probably be a larger variety of shows on Nickelodeon. Yes, no? Anyone care to continue this discussion as opposed to just lingering on the "Spongebob ****s" controversy? (see I even censored myself, which is something I hate doing). Why do I censor myself? Because I care about people like you...Ain't that ironic.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I only remember TMNT and He-Man airing on kids-specific blocks on channels. I don't think there was a chance for those channels to rerun them constantly.
