i just bought a new pioneer head unit, should it have light scrathes?

i bought a pioneer head unit off of ebay, it came out of the box with light scratches on the face plate. its just like the used screen look, with those used scratch marks. is this normal ? it was manuafactured in jan 2009, its the deh-p510ub. it works and all. how can i tell if the unit is brand new ? by smell any ideas ?
