still wont start.? i checked the starter and it is still good. when i connect both the positive and the negative battery cables, the starter starts to run even with no key in the ignition. the guy at autozone told me i might need a new ignition switch but i want a sencond opinion. if anyone can help i would be greatly appreciated. thanks

sound like the ignition wire on the starter is on with the battery power wire just put it on the small post that has an i on it and that should clear your problem up but check the ignition wire that is running down to the starter it will be the smaller one if it is hot without it being hooked to the starter then you do have a bad ignition just test it with a regular test light

sounds like your starter solenoid is shorted..which is why ur engine is turning over when u touch the cables to the battery.replace the solenoid...good luck-also the solenoid is mounted on the pass side inner fender, follow the pos.battery cable to the solenoid.take all the wires off the solenoid leaving just the pos.cable on the side its on,and on the other side of the solenoid leaving just the cable to the starter, this way ur taking the ignition switch out of the loop.if it still does it change the solenoid,if it doesnt u have other problems, like ignition switch, shorted wires etc...good luck

well first thing with the battery disconnected if you to the igintion to start and release it does it turn on it's own to the normal run position. if so thats not the problem. i would first try replaceing the starter solenoid on the passenger fenderwell. if thats not then go for the ignition switch down on the column
