I joined a road race from houston to austin.. what type/brand of bike should i get?

i bmx so i know most of the basics about road bikes but i don't know what brands i should be looking at or type of bikes.. budget under 750 i don't have $9000 at hand

please suggest a bike brand and series

and I'm not to clear on the sizes
