I haven't been this excited in ages. (John K's going independent)

Meh, more like selling out then going independant seeing how he wants to reach a wider audience and make more dough (despite those donations and his merchandise he has for sale). It'd be nice to see his blog more organised though but I don't have interest in a webcomic by him. If he does want to cater to more people he should stop complaining about anime and all that joe.

John K. has been "independent" for nearly a decade by now. "Independent" is just another way to say "no one wants to work with me for very rational reasons". All of his webtoons and sites he has designed since being dropped from TV have fizzled out. I don't see why his awful George Liquor webtoons won't meet the same fate.

I think there are other reasons companies don't want to work with him too, some understandable like not meeting deadlines or lack of quality control, other silly like his work not being "hip". I haven't seen his Liquor toons but when John has no censor limits I doubt that I should.

I've seen Ripping Friends; what was he thinking? I couldn't sit thru that for more than 5 minutes. Then again, I'm no Ren & Stimpy fan either....

Damn, people are studying the subtle machinations of one man's blog as if it were Kremlinology. First he's retiring when he never said any such thing apart from taking his blog private for a few days, now he's "going independent" whatever that means?

He thinks his storyboard concepts might be better presented a different format than he does it in his current blog, and is weighing the options. It's nice that he's allowing the public insight into his thought processes, but millions of other cartoonists are putting out webcomics, so what's the big deal here? Sure, he's somewhat of a celebrity in animation circles, but how significant is that?

Being a celebritiy is a big deal in the US, though I think the term itself typically means "An over-hyped individual". I dunno why theres usually a topic for nearly each of his posts here, there should just be one big topic for him.

Yeah, it sounds like he just wants to split his blog so that those who are serious about improving their animation skills can go to one blog, while the rest would be for general animation critiques/reviews and Ren & Stimpy tidbits. Which I wouldn't mind, actually.
