I have to have allergy shots.

Hi ,
I had allergy testing done last week , and tested positive to everything they stuck in my arms! The doctor said I will need two shots a week. this is all new to me and I am not sure about the shots and how well they work.

Both of my arms were so full of blister like marks on them from the testing.

Any info would be appreciated.
 
Well, am sorry your doctor didn't give you more information! There are varying methoRAB but the most widely used one is a 5 year program. In the beginning you go a couple of times a week until you get to maintenance dosage and then it's every 4 weeks. You do have to back up to every 2 weeks when you get new vials of serum as well for 2 times and then back to every 4 weeks. It's not for the faint of heart as you will have to schedule vacations, days off, all sorts of events around this. However, for most people, they work wonderfully! For some the results last a lifetime. For others, not so much. I've done them 3 times: once in my teens, once in my 30's and again in my 50's. I'm 63 now and am pretty much resigned to the fact I'll do them at least once more. But they do work very well for me and I react as a 4 or a few 3's to all the allergens they test for in my locale. Be sue and ask your doc about taking an antihistamine the morning of your shots. It will help with any reaction. Also, if it is an indefinite length of time for the shots (like for always or just "until")fire this doc and find another,

Thank you for sharing your story with me. I have had the shots 3 weeks in a now. I go every monday after work. It is two shots at a time for 31 weeks. And a 6 month follow with the allergist. So far I have not noticed anything different , but I gather it is too early to tell yet .
 
Most people take a year to show real improvement - some after about 6 months. But 3 weeks is not near enough time.
