My surgeon told me today that I have to have a procedure where a tube goes down my nose into my oesophagus and into my stomach. I had this done 8 years ago...it was REVOLTING. Then I have to keep a tube down me for 24 hrs and from the results of these tests he'll know what type of operation I need to stop my severe reflux. Has anyone else had this done. It was DISGUSTING 8 years ago, I hope somehow it won't be as bad this time.

The procedure you are referring to is a 24 hr pH probe. I've had it done twice. Most recently in August. I think the nurabing stuff they used in my nose this time was a bit better. Otherwise, it was the same for me. I went to the same clinic for both tests though.

Are you having a Manometry first? It was more difficult for me when they put the pH tube in after taking the Manometry one first.

My best advice to make this more tolerable.... When they have you take sips of water while they insert the tubes, do your best to swallow as much as you can so the tube goes down smoothly. Also make sure you chew your food well and don't swallow huge chunks of stuff. It keeps the food from pulling on the tube as much when you swallow.

Also, try not to go into the test with the minRABet of how horrible it will be. For me it was just the next necessary step in figuring out how to best treat my reflux.

I ended up having the Nissen Fundoplication last week.

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I think I have both tests. I think I remeraber the lady telling me to "relax" but I'd never had anything done like it before and I was just sooooo yucked out. And when the first tube came out, I was so upset I couldn't bare the thought of doing it a second time, but this time I have to.

I think I'll be more relaxed this time because I know more of what to expect and as you say...it's something that has to be done to get the reflux sorted.

I hope your happy with the result of your operation. How did they do it, key hole ? 8 years ago they had to open the whole chest up, that's why I didn't go ahead with it, it scared me to have something so major done, but now my bloke can do it key hole, which isn't as bad....I think !!!!
