I have to do a home High Vaginal Swab?

I went to my doctors today and said i was having a lot of discharge down there and that i had been treated for yeast but it never went away. Because i am curretly menstruatig she gave me a home HVS kit and told me to do it as soon as my period stops, however she was not very helpful and did not describe how i use it, for it to be effective how far does it need to go up any details would be appreciated , i kn ow it sounds dumb but if i do it correctly then i can avoid a swab being done at my doctors.
