I have this debate on "manners should be taught at school"?

yes so the topic is that and i'm on the negative team. can anyone tell me reasons why manners shouldn't be taught and give evidence for your answer. and also could you tell me reasons why it should be taught so i can sought of prepare for my rebuttal.
 
reasons it shouldn't be taught could be:
manners should be learned at home from parents(it is their responsibility to teach their children) teachers should not teach what they "believe" to be proper manners.
it is a waste of school time to complete actual necessary credits. (colleges won't be impressed that you took good manner class, instead you could be learning something that will help your future academically)
some people already know manners and shouldn't be forced to take such a class.
etiquette classes could be offered but should not be a mandatory class.
THE OPPOSING TEAM COULD SAY:
manner should be taught to better the society of this country.
People would benefit from these classes greatly, and our generation would excel in many ways.
There might even be a decrease in violence and crime.
The divorce rater would decrease. More happier families. Less conflict. A better society.
 
I work in council schools and I strongly believe that it is not entirely down to the school to teach children manners. Yes, they should be taught at school, but they also need to be taught at home for children to really learn and remember them alone. Also, they should be taught wherever the child or children go to after school- such as in out of school childcare settings or childminders.
 
i'm not going to answer all of your questions, but i'll just list some ideas where you can write your own argument and rebuttals.
- parents should hold the responsibility to teach manners - or else what are they supposed to do?
- some teachers can be rude
- family has more influence on the child than school does.
- cultural differences
 
no, do not trust a school to teach manners schools almost totally fail at teaching what they are handed and if you pile something else on you better expect a total collapse. not to mention kids who are taught manners with a bunch of other kids....well the weakest link will bring everyone down to the same level. the fact is kids hate being taught it so any way they can avoid it is good and there is safety in numbers.
 
it takes more than one person to raise a child. manners should be consistant and tought at both home and school.the prime responsibility of teaching manners should stem from home, if parents are rude and ignorant this could effect a child for the rest of their life and if the child takes on the parents character they will struggle to fit into into society effecting their jobs ,relationships etc
