i have the motorola droid and i love it BUT...it hangs up on everyone and mutes itself?

does anyone else have this irritating issue? and is it because im technology illiterate or is it the phone? any tricks to get it to STOP acting dumb? if i could make PHONE CALLS this phone would be the best but EVERY time i get into a conversation my cheek hangs up on whoever im talking to!!! or it mutes on me or starts pushing random buttons and i have no clue how to un mute it this droid for sure DOESNT. i was so excited to get this phone for months and now im missing my glyde because i never had issues with phone calls. OHHHHHHH and i forgot to mention that that battery life is also TERRIBLE i cant even get a 12 hour charge even when im not constantly on it..... any tricks to extending the battery life????
 
The phone has a light sensor that dims the screen when you out it up to your face. So either you're holding it wrong, or it's defective. As far as battery life- it's an Android phone- that's perfectly normal. Keep WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS off as much as possible, and set Facebook, email, etc. to sync as infrequently as possible. Also turn down your screen brightness. And use a task manager like Advanced Task Killer to end apps that you're not using anymore.
