I have really big thighs. Would biking for 30 minutes 4 times a week be good...

...enough to tone them? (more info)? I'm female, 20, 5'5 and weigh around 150, but most of the weight is in my thighs.
I like biking, and can go biking 3-6 times a week for 20-30 minutes each time.
If I do some leg workouts for 10 minutes 3 or 4 times a week to go along with biking, will this be good enough to tone my thighs?

Is it too much, not enough or just right?

Opinions?

Thanks!

dude, i've struggled for years to answer that question. well, i'm gonna have to say that i've found a really effective way to do so, and the best thing is that it really suits lifestyles, because i could tell, ok go the gym every day for 5 hours and sure you'll have ripped abs and so on. But for busy people, who have a life like me there's an easier way.
First , diet is the most important factor, I don't want to talk about the scientific facts, i would spend the whole day here. What you have to do is eat no carbs, no more than 50 grams (avoid sugar please) for 3 days, and drink a lot of water, and if possible try to eat often, and shut meals down at night. Don't you really worry about calories, you will find yourself eating less than usual, because avoiding carbs makes you feel full, really. But the MOST important thing here is your fourth day. Don't skip it, it's important. So 3 days of no carbs and then you have a day where you have to eat carbs, try to go with good carbs though, like non refined carbs. if not, don't worry, you can cheat, but it would be better to do it early in the day. you know brown rice, etc.. have a nice day with a big lasagna or soemthing, don't you think that you could skip this step, if you do so, your metabolism will go down, and it could be REALLY bad. and finally what i do before a go to bed, i workout, you know, pushups, pullups, i use dumbells, but since i like tone and not size, i don't do too much weight,, try to reach 30 reps and y go slow and smooth. That's it, to keep your muscles active and your metabolism high. Hoep it helps, you 'll find yourself much better, don't trust the scale, trust your eyes. good luck

i believe that would be just barely enough, but wouldnt be outstanding, make it an hour with a break at the half-hour mark, and that would be perfect and you would question yourself no longer, thats my take on your situation, i think youre doing enough, but not as much as you could, hope this helps =)

Hi Anna. A few things first 5'5" and 150 is not bad at all. Me personally I like to do at least an hour if possible. I also drink all diet drinks except for milk and orange juice since they have calcium and vitamin c. Also do you have a way to "mix it up"? For example, I sometimes will walk the beach for 1-2 hours as an alternative exercise. Also for your leg workouts, do not set a time but instead use repetitions and sets. Maybe 3 sets of as many as you can do for each exercise.

Running would give better results. Biking can actually bulk up your legs (with muscle, of course). However, it's a good kind of 'bulk', if that makes any sense. (:

But I think at 30 minutes at least 5 times a week (the minimum recommended amount of exercise) would show the best results. The leg exercises will definitely help with toning. Good luck!

My probably incorrect opinion is that it may be too much. working your thighs that much while it will burn off fat, will also build muscle. I don't have an answer for what to do, I just know that at some point, working your muscles builds them up.

The biking is not too much, but doing resistance training exercises on your legs more than twice a week is excessive. Space those lifts out so that your legs can recover and you'll see better results. Don't neglect the rest of your body with resistance training too. Remember, the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be.
