I have been home cooking for my dog, but my mom dosent approve and keeps buying...

...dog food. What do I do? i try to tell her, but she dosent listen. i told her all about animal digest and fillers and everything. she dosent care. so, i have been home cooking for my dog for the past 2 weeks or so and already noticed a difference in his health. i have read all about it and everything and know how to do it. my mom hates this and says, "we can barley afford to feed ourselves so why would you give the dog our food?"

she went out and bought purina one, which has animal digest and tons of fillers. she wont listen! should i just stop cooking for my dog, or let him eat that nasty crust that passes as an excuse for dog food? please dont say talk to her because she honestly seems like she hates me recently and i tryed talking to her. she just tells me to leave her the he** alone and go away. i just want whats best for my dog, and want him to live a long healthy life. also im disgusted at what they put in dog food.
 
What are you feeding him ?
I home cook for my two GSDs and it's a lot cheaper than buying the bags or tins or whatever.
 
Well cooking for your dog is a bit much, especially if you can't afford it.

try to find a store that supplies "diamond naturals"
it is not a extreme high quality of food but it's ALOT better than most brands.
only diamond NATURALS any other diamond brand is not as good.
it is about 27$ a bag.
you will be feeding less than you did with purina.
if someone supplies the normal diamond but not naturals ask if they can special order it for you it shouldn't have to pay extra for it when they special order it..

otherwise you really have to figure out how much money you are going to be spending on feeding him.
in all honesty many dogs do fine on purina (i know it's a bad food and they are not as heatlhy dogs as tehy could be) but some dogs live 15+ heating purina their whole lives.
if you cannot afford it you cannot afford it!
you are more important than your dog...
your dog will eat whatever you need to.
 
at my work we feed all of our hunting dogs purina pro plan and they are extremely healthy. almost all of our dogs have lived long full lives, and were healthy enough to hunt even when we retired them. i agree with the home cooked thing being much better for dogs, but is it really worth the argument? and with the economy like it is, maybe it would be better to just feed him dog food for now.
 
I am sure your Mum doesn't hate you.

Obviously you want to do the best for your dog, which is commendable.

However, if your Mum can't afford for you to make his food yourself, try and come to some sort of arrangement.

For example, why not purchase a better quality of food than Purina but not quite as good as making it yourself?

I am not sure how old you are but if you are old enough to get a part time job to help pay towards the food.

If you aren't old enough to get a part time job, try and do some more chores in the house.

This might go a long way to winning your Mum over.
 
Well I agree. You shouldn't be 'cooking' for the dog. But Purina is one of the worst out there, try and get your mom to buy a healthier brand of dog food like Innova or Orijen. Or, if you like feed your dog meats, try a RAW diet.

One of my dogs is allergic to Purina Pro Plan.
I can both sides to this, but you should feed your dog whatever works best for your dog & your budget.
